With recent launches at the end of 2018 and more ships slated to debut in 2019, a flotilla of new vessels is sailing into view. Here are some highlights.

Size: 129,500 tons; 2,918 passengers

Entered service: December 2018

Something special: Multiuse, cantilevered platform on starboard side that moves between decks


Cruise line: AmaWaterways (amawaterways.com)

Size: 443 feet long, 72 feet wide; 196 passengers

Enters service: May 2019

Something special: Almost twice as wide as traditional river vessels, it will offer additional dining and activity options

Carnival Panorama

Cruise Line: Carnival Cruise Line (carnival.com)

Size: 133,500 tons; 3,977 passengers

Enters service: December 2019

What's special: The first new Carnival ship to have its home port on the West Coast in 20 years, sailing from Long Beach. SkyRide bicycles-in-the-sky attraction

What's special: Purpose-built to sail the Galápagos Islands with an open-air stargazing platform

What's special: Oprah Winfrey is the ship's godmother (naming a godmother for new vessels is a maritime tradition)
